EDT vs EDP vs Parfum — What's the Difference?

The difference comes down to fragrance oil concentration. Eau de Toilette (EDT) has 5–15% oil concentration and lasts around 3–5 hours — light and great for daytime. Eau de Parfum (EDP) has 15–20% concentration, lasting 5–8 hours, with richer depth. Parfum (or Extrait de Parfum) is the most concentrated at 20–30%, often lasting 8+ hours with the smallest amount needed per spray.

How to Wear Perfume the Right Way?

Apply to pulse points — wrists, neck, behind the ears, and inside the elbows — where warmth helps the fragrance diffuse. Spray from 3–5 inches away and never rub your wrists together, as friction breaks down the fragrance molecules and dulls the scent. Perfume also lasts longer on moisturized skin, so apply to freshly hydrated skin for the best results.

How to Layer Fragrances Like a Pro?

Layering means combining two or more scents to create something more personal. Start with a heavier, base-note-driven fragrance as your foundation, then add a lighter, brighter scent on top — for example, a woody or musky base with a citrus or floral EDT layered over it. Apply the stronger scent first, let it settle for a minute, then add the second. Using a matching unscented or lightly scented body lotion underneath also helps fragrance last longer.

How Long Should Perfume Actually Last?

Longevity depends on concentration, skin type, and even weather. As a rule of thumb: EDTs last 3–5 hours, EDPs 5–8 hours, and Parfums 8+ hours. Dry skin tends to hold fragrance less than oily or well-moisturized skin, and hot, humid weather can make scents project faster but fade sooner. Reapplying to pulse points midday is completely normal, even with a long-lasting fragrance.

How to Store Your Perfume Correctly?

Heat, light, and humidity are a fragrance's worst enemies. Store your bottles in a cool, dark place — a drawer or cupboard away from direct sunlight — rather than on a bathroom shelf or windowsill. Keep the cap on tightly when not in use to slow oxidation. Stored properly, most perfumes stay true to their original scent for 3–5 years or longer.

What Is Sillage and Projection?

Sillage refers to the trail a fragrance leaves in the air as you move — think of it as the scent "\wake\" others notice after you've walked past. Projection is how far the fragrance radiates from your skin — some perfumes stay close (intimate, noticeable only up close), while others project several feet out. Heavier concentrations like EDP and Parfum generally have stronger sillage and projection than EDTs, but ingredients matter too — woody and oud-based scents tend to project more than light citrus or aquatic notes.

What Makes a Perfume Vegan?

Vegan perfumes are formulated without any animal-derived ingredients — no musk, civet, ambergris, or honey extracts, all of which are common in traditional perfumery. Instead, vegan fragrances use synthetic or plant-based alternatives that replicate those same warm, musky notes. Vegan doesn't always mean cruelty-free by default, so look for both callouts if that matters to you.

Alcohol-Based vs Oil-Based Perfume

Alcohol-based perfumes (most EDTs, EDPs, and Parfums) use ethanol as a carrier — it evaporates quickly, helping the fragrance project further and evolve through its top, heart, and base notes. Oil-based (attar/ittar-style) perfumes use a carrier oil instead — they sit closer to the skin, last a long time, and are often preferred by those with sensitive skin or those avoiding alcohol for personal or religious reasons.
